The Mississippi River is blocked after a UK-flagged bulker ran aground Friday morning.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. local time, the 114,248-dwt Anglo Alexandria (built 2011) was grounded roughly 70 miles southeast of New Orleans, near the mouth of the waterway, the US Coast Guard said.

The disabled ship, plus several days of heavy fog, have created a queue of more than 50 ships waiting to enter or exit the river.
