SMIT has been brought in to remove bunkers from the sunken Costa Concordia once the search for survivors has ended.

The Dutch salvage company has been appointed by Costa and its insurers, according to a spokesman of Smit parent company Boskalis Westminster.

“To indicate the phases: the first priority is to search for people missing. We are not involved in this,” Boskalis spokesman Martijn Schuttevaer said.
