Canada's Algoma Central Corporation has more than doubled earnings in the second quarter thanks to its bulkers.

The shipowner said net profit to 30 June was CAD 29.16m ($22.99m), from CAD 13.26m in the same period of 2016.

Revenue grew to CAD 123.91m against CAD 99.03m year-on-year.

“We experienced continued strong volumes and performance in our domestic dry-bulk business in the second quarter, building on the solid markets we saw developing earlier in the year,” said CEO Ken Bloch Soerensen.
