China’s Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation (CSET) and state-owned Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) have jointly developed a design for a VLCC that will be powered by green-methanol.

The methanol dual-fuel design is believed to be an industry first for a very large crude tanker, and has received approval in principle from the China Classification Society (CCS) and DNV.

According to CSET, the green methanol-fuelled VLCC is the second dual-fuelled large crude tanker project that it has worked on in conjunction with DSIC.
