A legal battle over the alleged wrongful arrest of an MR tanker in Sri Lanka looks set to run way beyond the end of the ship’s life.

The 35,000-dwt Agros (built 1996) was scrapped in 2021, but the repercussions of a court case relating to a 2014 charter continue.

Sri Lanka’s Sunday Times reported that the country’s Court of Appeal has upheld a 2017 ruling by the Colombo High Court directing a Marshall Islands-based charterer to provide a $1m bank guarantee for the counterclaim of owner Agros Shipping Company.
