The US has claimed a cyber attack it carried out on Iran blunted the country's efforts to track and target shipping in the Persian Gulf.
The New York Times cited senior US officials as saying the secret move in June wiped out a key database used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to plot attacks on tankers.
