Take for example the 67-metre Danah Explorer, a recent newcomer to the realm of luxury mega­yachts. Built in 1980, the vessel was for three decades a humble platform supply vessel (PSV) that operated in the fleets of offshore operators Ensco and Tidewater.

When deemed too old and obsolete for further offshore work, it went on to serve new owners as a fishing boat and, later, a research vessel.
