Bitter medicine for German brokers

TradeWinds put the question to Hamburg Shipbrokers’ Association (VHSS) board members Jan Bartels, Christoph Bruhn and Peter Eckhardt at their annual meeting in the Hafen-Klub Hamburg.

“Its not getting easier, there’s no doubt about it,” said Eckhardt, a 20-year veteran of the German boxship scene who as managing director of Martini Chartering oversees the chartering of around 80 containerships.

“You have to distinguish between who is more KG [limited partnership]-driven and who’s a more traditional owner.”
