China’s Brightoil Petroleum Group is laying the ground for a massive orders spreee worth $1.75bn and that will include five LNG carriers.

Market players say the Hong Kong-listed owner has approached major South Korean yards for a total of 15 newbuildings also including VLCCs and aframax tankers.

The company is said to be seeking five ships of each type.

Korean yards are understood to be quoting $95m to $100m for a standard VLCC, in the low $50m for an aframax and around $200m for a LNG carrier.
