The last time I wrote about Greek politics was almost exactly a year ago when the election of Syriza on a hard-left programme had caused deep trepidation among shipowners.
I suggested that recent history showed that, once in power, ministers in Athens tend to become far more pragmatic than the fiery populist rhetoric contained in election manifestoes would have suggested. Well, that’s what we saw with the Pasok socialist party of Andreas Papandreou.
