Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG)’s moves to get out of shipmanagement have given Qatar’s Nakilat an earlier-than-expected chance to take the first vessel in its huge LNG carrier fleet under full in-house management.

Industry sources indicate that the planned transfer of the technical shipmanagement of the first LNG carrier to Nakilat had not been due to take place until around 2015.

However, the owner, which has been under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US since November 2012, instigated the move on its four ships ahead of the Qatari owner’s timetable for taking the management of its 45-vessel Q-ship fleet.
