Harpain Reederei, a recently launched gas-carrier joint venture based in Hamburg, has ambitions to build up a fleet of 10 or 12 ships, says partner Harald Block.

Harpain has followed up the $60m purchase of its first vessel, the 24,000-cbm LPG tanker Queen Zenobia (built 2002), by ordering four 17,000-cbm ethylene/LPG newbuildings at Meyer Werft in Germany.

The deal was signed this week in a Hamburg restaurant with Meyer Werft managing partner Bernard Meyer.
