The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) is adding its weight to the battery revolution by installing auxiliary electric propulsion to an ice-strengthened research vessel when it undergoes lengthening.

SYKE is sending the 1,734-gross-ton Aranda (built 1989) to Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) for a remodelling that will extend the ship’s hull by roughly seven metres and include the installation of auxiliary battery propulsion among other refurbishments.
