Donald, who says the orders for nine ships at Italy’s Fincantieri and Germany’s Meyer Werft include “a number of options”, revealed it is the first time the Miami cruiseship giant has booked ships envisioned from the start to be able to serve multiple cruise lines.

“We’ve had platforms in the past that have cut across brands but this one has been much more purposeful in the beginning,” he said, noting that in previous orders, Carnival’s cruise lines have adopted newbuilding platforms developed by other brands within the 101-ship group.
