Tidewater’s boss says he expects the offshore vessel giant to eventually buy up specialised ships as it expands its fledgling subsea business.

Chief executive Jeffrey Platt describes the potential move deeper into subsea services as an extension of the remotely operated vehicles (ROV) division launched by the New Orleans-based owner late last year.

“The ROVs are not an end. That’s not where we see it ending,” he said during the UBS Oil & Gas expo.
