Lines operating between Asia and the US have warned of a surge in demand for low-sulphur fuel that might not be fully met.

The warning from the 15 lines of the Transpacific Stabilisation Agreement (TSA) comes as five of its members comprising the CKYHE Alliance unveiled plans to expand their existing co-operation to the US trades, including the transpacific.

That is where carriers have raised concerns over the hundreds of millions of dollars they expect to fork out from 1 January to cover the cost of operating with low-sulphur fuel to North American ports.
