Star Bulk Carriers has started paying dividends again after changing its payout policy and boosting earnings amid higher rates for its bulker fleet.

The Petros Pappas-led owner of 125 bulkers on Wednesday declared a payout of $0.30 per share alongside a first-quarter profit of $35.8m that dwarfed earnings of $2.8m a year ago.

The Greek company gave dividends of $0.05
