Dire tanker markets and soaring finance costs hit Tsakos Energy Navigation last year as profit waned.
The Greek owner slumped to a loss in the fourth quarter alone after taking an impairment hit but stayed in the black for the full year largely thanks to disposal gains.
Net profit for the year was $19.77m as against $28.69m a year earlier as revenues sank from $444.93m
