Europe has the potential to secure 50m tonnes of CO2 annually in captured projects by 2030, but there is a need for frontrunners to progress carbon capture and storage and risk management to be built into contracts to make the business investable.

Speaking at the Northern Lights sixth annual summit — this year held at the project’s under-construction receiving facilities in Oygarden near Bergen in Norway — European Commission policy officer Johanna Fiksdahl said there is still a need for more final investment decisions on CCS projects.
