Grand China Shipping’s 79,400-dwt bulker Zhen Bang (built 2015) has been released from Singapore after being detained over an alleged entanglement with a subsea cable.

The ship was seized last Wednesday at the request of submarine cable operator Pacnet Network, part of Australia’s Telstra Corp, which filed an SGD 1.4m ($1m) claim for damages against the ship.

Court documents reveal that Pacnet was trying to obtain security from the ship’s protection-and-indemnity (P&I) provider, the Swedish Club, for damages it believes the vessel caused by dragging its anchor over a cable from Singapore to Hong Kong.
