Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) and Samsung Heavy Industries are working to bring an ultra-large ethane carrier (ULEC) to market.

The design will carry 150,000 cbm of liquid cargo — about 50% more than is possible now on 98,000-cbm very large ethane carriers, the companies said.

GTT, a designer of membrane-type cargo containment systems, said the new vessel will allow shipowners and charterers to achieve "significant economy of scale".
