Danish ro-ro group DFDS has welcomed a likely delay to the UK's leaving of the European Union.

It said the EU's offer to extend Brexit day until 12 April or 22 May removed the risk of a hard exit.

According to Maritime Denmark, outgoing chief executive Niels Smedegaard said: “It is really good news, not only for DFDS, but also for the many colleagues who had planned to be [on] standby to assist our customers and be able to quickly solve Brexit issues round the clock after 29 March.
