China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) and Jiangnan Shipyard are emerging as best positioned to scoop Hapag-Lloyd’s $1.11bn newbuilding deal for a raft of ultra large containership newbuildings.

Industry sources close to the process said the availability of Chinese financing offered by CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping — the leasing arm of China State Shipbuilding Corp — is the primary reason that Hapag-Lloyd was looking to build its new big boxships in China.
