Oshima Shipbuilding said it will start building bulk carriers at its newly-acquired Koyagi shipyard in the spring after completing a takeover from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Oshima said the full takeover of the 970,000 square metre facility was completed on 27 December. No price has been disclosed for the deal.

It said it plans to start production in the giant 990-metre long, 1m-gt capacity dry dock in the new financial year which begins in April.
