Connecticut tanker broker Charles Weber says 131 MR products tankers were booked last month, up from an average monthly tally of 107 in the fourth quarter of last year and 88 in the third. In the first half of 2012, there were an average of 77 fixtures per month.
The latest strong numbers highlight a rising influence of ex-US Gulf MR loadings that have boosted profitability Atlantic trade, including the key front-haul trade from Europe to the northeast of the US.
